The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Kingpin was sourced mainly from the Klipsun Vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA. It contains a dollop of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The wine spent 22 months in 75% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up an expressive nose of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, violets, black currant, and blackberry. Quite tannic upon entry, this full-bodied effort seems to have the requisite fruit for balance but will require significant cellaring of at least 6-8 years. It will likely be more pleasing to the intellect than to the senses.
Sparkman Cellars, located in Woodinville, was founded in 2004 by Christian Sparkman, his wife, and partners.
