Made with splashes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Ruckus is loaded with generous Syrah tones with juicy blackberries, black peppercorn, hints of roasted herbs and black olives. Full-bodied, robust and food-friendly, the wine is a heavy hitter with layers of flavors, revealing crème de violet, spiced plum compote and bitter dark chocolate and loads of fine-grained tannins on the mid-palate. The wine concludes with a long-lingering and expressive finish that continues to evolve for moments after the wine has left the mouth. Only 3,204 bottles were made of this wonderful Syrah that is absolutely deserving of its name. Drink until 2030.

The 2016 Syrah Ruckus was blended with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Viognier and opens with a dark red-fruited core with elements of black pepper and savory spice tones. Medium to full-bodied, the wine drinks lighter in style than the Darkness Syrah of the same range and price point, and it ends with a straightforward finish with lingering flavors of bitter dark chocolate and spiced plum compote.

Composed of 80% Syrah, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Viognier, the 2015 Syrah Ruckus has a Syrah heart of black pepper that wafts with notes of tart red and black fruit and dusty red flowers. The wine is full-bodied and sophisticated on the palate, delivering pleasure with rich focus and a chewy tannic core that will subside in time. The long finish lingers with blackberry essence and soft savory spices. Only 295 cases made.

Coming from Red Mountain and blend of blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Viognier, the 2014 Syrah Ruckus is a rock-solid effort loaded with smoked black fruits (plums, currants), licorice, chocolate and obvious minerality. Rich, nicely textured, and concentrated, with that Red Mountain structure showing on the finish, it's going to be at its best from 2019-2026.

The outstanding 2013 Syrah Ruckus has lots of floral characteristics as well as classic Red Mountain minerality, cassis and black raspberry fruit. Full-bodied, rich and textured, it should drink beautifully for 5-7 years. Note that the blend here is 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier (no doubt why it’s so floral) and it was aged in 33% new French oak.
