A hot-vintage blend of 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella, the Santi 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Santico (with 85,000 bottles made) is characteristic of this category made with air-dried fruit. It shows lots of power and concentration with dark fruit, scorched earth, asphalt and tar. You also get raisin or dried plum along with leather and cured tobacco. Santico prizes brawn over complexity and ends with a powerful 16% alcohol content.

The Santi 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Santico is an accessible expression of 80% Corvina and 20% Rondinella from a balanced and elegant vintage. The wine delivers the basics and doesn't venture far beyond. It offers a pretty assembly of dark fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. Fruit is sourced from some of Santi's historic growing sites in San Pietro in Cariano, Fumane and Marano between 150 and 300 meters in elevation. Production is an ample 75,000 bottles.

Supple tannins frame this elegant, medium- to full-bodied red, well-knit with spiced flavors of dried cherry and loamy earth, plus hints of licorice and tobacco. Ends with a fresh, minerally finish.
