The 2008 Falcoria Classico is a blend of Castelao, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Alicante Bouschet aged for 13 months in French oak. This is quite pleasing, elegant, graceful and laid back, but ultimately it is not as big a step up as its price spike would suggest over Casal Branco’s lower end reds reviewed this issue. It has some finesse, as does the 2008 Quartilho, along with a slightly annoying oaky tinge that did fade a bit with air. Restrained and otherwise moderately crisp, it drinks nicely in a straightforward fashion. Whether you think it is worth the extra bucks –not that it is overall all that expensive; just more expensive than the winery’s good value offerings--is up to you. There were 650 cases produced. Drink now-2016. Importers: For all wines except Quartilho and Capoeira brands: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt. Vernon, NY; tel.
