The 2018 First Growth was first made in 1988, and is only made in suitable years. The fruit in this wine is pliable and supple, with layers of ripe raspberry, nori, licorice, earth, bramble, resin and char in equal measure. There is a traditional/classical/old school vibe to this wine (call it what you will) that only emphasizes its beauty, in my mind. It speaks of Coonawarra and of Cabernet equally. The middle palate is succulent and satisfying, while the finish dries out to fresh leather, dried fig and even a hint of bay/sage and quince. A beauty.

Last reviewed more than two years ago, it's reassuring to see how the 2016 First Growth has evolved since then. Lovely cigar-box aromatics join with cassis on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is supple and rich, almost velvety in texture, and the mouthwatering finish lingers a good long time. It should continue to drink well for at least another 15 years.

Herbal and lifted, the aromas of the 2015 First Growth hint at mint and dried herbs but also ripe cherries and cassis. Full-bodied and rich, give this wine some time in the cellar to better integrate those herbal notes with the solid core of underlying fruit that dominates the long, layered finish.

Deep garnet-colored, the 2010 First Growth opens to a gorgeous nose of ripe blackcurrant and preserved plums with hints of fragrant earth, underbrush, cigar box, sandalwood and dried Mediterranean herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the elegant palate has great concentration, fine tannins and length.

Deep garnet colored and opening with aromas of cassis, ripe plums and mulberries alongside hints of dried herbs and cloves plus a touch of cedar, the taut and youthful 2008 First Growth Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to full-bodied and structured by firm, chewy tannins plus lively acid through the long finish.
