The estate’s 2009 Viognier L’Ultima Spiaggia is a very pretty, round, textured wine. There isn’t a ton of varietal character here – certainly not relative to the finest Viogniers readers are likely to be familiar with – but the wine delivers gorgeous length and a finessed, elegant finish. The estate’s 2007 Viognier L’Ultima Spiaggia is another flashy, textured wine from Il Palazzone. Jasmine, honey and apricots all make an appearance as this expansive white opens up in the glass. The 2006 L'Ultima Spiaggia is Viognier aged in small French oak barrels. The fruit is rich, honeyed and candied as the wine opens in the glass. The oak has added an additional layer of volume and sweetness, but has also covered much of the varietal detail. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.
