Spiced red berries, raspberry bush, blood orange and tree bark on offer. Medium-bodied, structured and meaty with velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. A little chewy at the end. Drink after 2025.

Released one year after the Meruzzano, the 2019 Barbaresco Montersino is a focused and etched wine with dark fruit, spice, licorice, cola and crushed rose. The wine sports a medium-dark garnet color and firm concentration that you feel in terms of mouthfeel and the wine's tannin bite. Some 8,500 bottles were made.

The 2018 Barbaresco Montersino shows a warm bouquet with dried fruit and tobacco that give the wine an aged or slightly evolved approach. Spanish cedar and cured tobacco fold into dark cherry and dried fruit. This is a generous, medium-bodied wine with extra padding and structure in this vintage. I recommend a slightly shorter drinking window as a result.

The hot-vintage Orlando Abrigo 2017 Barbaresco Montersino brings in more structure and concentration when compared to the other wines in this portfolio. This wine wears broader shoulders, with dark fruit, plum, spice and mineral-rich soil. It sits heavier on the palate too, with a tightly woven textural approach that gives this 13,000-bottle production a longer aging window.

Drawing its fruit from Treiso, the Orlando Abrigo 2016 Barbaresco Montersino is a real beauty. The wine pours from the bottle with a lively dark ruby color, and it delivers sharp and linear aromas of bright fruit, tilled earth and licorice. This classic vintage provides an authentic portrait of the Nebbiolo grape with some of the extra fullness and layering that we can expect of this vintage. I could imagine a happy pairing with any food that involves truffle oil or essence.
