The 2014 Barbaresco Montersino left me with an unsolved mystery. I liked the intensity but was distracted by the unripe fruit astringency—just too astringent considering the lean nature of the vintage. Black and thick, the wine is full of smoky oak and dark fruit. This wine sees up to 18 months in barrique, of which 15% is new oak. Some 5,500 bottles were made.
