With organic fruit from the village of Roddi, the Negretti 2017 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio opens to a playful bouquet with hints of dried mint and balsam herb that are specific to this bottle and this growing site. In terms of texture, this Barolo is open-knit and smooth. What it lacks in complexity, it makes up for with those fun aromas and the easy approach offered to the palate. You might also notice the powerful 15% alcoholic content. I like the fun and expressive character of Bricco Ambrogio. Production is 8,000 bottles.

The 2010 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio opens to thick layers of dark fruit, resin, tar and tobacco. This is a muscular and powerful expression of Nebbiolo with dark lines and determined fruit. The Bricco Ambrogio vineyard is the only cru recognized in the Roddi township of the Barolo appellation. The mouthfeel is somewhat rough in texture with a mild level of grittiness on the finish. Some 5,000 bottles were produced.

This exhibits fresh cherry and black currant flavors, and there's a meatiness to its texture. The firm grip of tannins sweeps in on the finish, which echoes fruit, along with eucalyptus and spice notes.
