2008 Chardonnay has an appealingly funky, wild, sulphide-scented nose with notes of oatmeal, pineapple and guava plus some nuts and ginger. Medium-high acid cuts through the intense, rich, toasty flavors of this medium to full bodied wine. It finishes long and creamy. Delicious now, it should cellar to 2016+.
Mount Maude’s Riesling vineyards are a very respectable 16-17 years old though unfortunately they lie in a frost prone area surrounding Terry and Dawn Wilson’s house. Consequently, in 2009 the Riesling was lost to frost. But when it comes in, it’s consistently good.
