Firm, with a dry, dusty finish, the 2018 Gigondas Vieux Clocher Nobles Terrasses looks to need another few years. It's medium to full-bodied, with bold pepper and cherry flavors alongside ample extraction and chewy tannins.

Considerably less tannic than when tasted out of barrel last year, the 2017 Gigondas Vieux Clocher Nobles Terrasses has been refined into a silky, open-knit wine that finishes long and spicy. Hints of roses highlight raspberry and cherry notes in this full-bodied blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre.

Better, the 2012 Gigondas Vieux Clocher Nobles Terrasses is beautifully perfumed and floral, with notions of spice-cake, red licorice, raspberry and crushed flowers all emerging from the glass. Comprised of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre, this medium-bodied, sweetly fruited and textured effort should be enjoyed over the coming 6-7 years. This large estate produces a bevy of rich, fruit-forward efforts that remain more than reasonably priced.
