The 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino shows lots of intense spice and dark fruit, with earthy tones and grilled herb. This is a hearty but nicely balanced wine that shows the power of the grape but holds back on the heaviness. You could pair this pretty vintage with lasagna with meat sauce and béchamel.

The certified organic Lungarotti 2018 Montefalco Sagrantino (with 16,000 bottles produced) opens to rich darkness and lively fruit notes of dried cherry and blackcurrant. The tannins are carefully managed to give structure and support to the ample fruit weight, but they don't impart bitterness. This vintage offers an accessible personality, although the high 15.5% alcohol content is something to watch out for.

A dark and fragrant red. There's a plushness to the dense tannins that adds accessibility and frames the rich range of coulised black cherry, date, medicinal herb and dark chocolate shavings. Another nice, organic wine from Lungarotti, the 2017 Montefalco Sagrantino offers lots of spice, dark fruit and richness (and a 15.5% alcohol content that is well integrated). Earthy tones and some sweetness are the takeaways here ultimately, although this hot-vintage wine is soft, clean and not too heavy, with tight but soft tannins. Some 15,000 bottles were produced.

An ashy smoke note leads the way in this full-bodied, aromatic red, with chewy tannins forming a dense frame to which flavors of black cherry coulis, licorice, cured tobacco and ground pepper are tightly knit.
