The 2014 Montefalco Sagrantino is a dark and brooding expression from Umbria with the hearty disposition and thick structure to pair with a grilled T-bone steak. This expression from Lungarotti also shows a slightly softer and more accessible approach compared to many of its peers. Remember, Sagrantino is a grape with one of the world's highest polyphenol contents, and the tannins are very difficult to tame as a result. This was a cool vintage, and although the fruit is ripe and rich, you do get wild aromas of forest berry and bramble to remind you of the cool summer season. Some 16,000 bottles were made.
