Linear and tight with currant, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. It’s a medium-bodied and medium-chewy red with an attractive, complex finish, remains firm and lively at the end. Pretty acidity. Drink or hold.

A blend of Sangiovese (80%) with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the 2015 Terricci is a robust, medium-bodied Tuscan blend with a well-measured bouquet of black fruit, tilled earth and savory spice. The wine is brawny and rich, especially in terms of mouthfeel, but its texture is never too thick or heavy. The base of the wine is Sangiovese, and you taste that grape here most. The other blending elements only register as background notes. Terricci would make a nice pairing with a thick mushroom, artichoke and spinach dip and freshly baked bread. Some 8,000 bottles were produced.

The 2013 Terricci shows ripe fruit and blackberry with smooth texture at that back. The wine is composed of 80% Sangiovese with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc (aged in French barrique for 18 months). This IGT Toscana red blend does a nice job of delivering both elegance and power in what was a cool and classic vintage.

The 2001 Terricci from Lanciola offers more evidence of just how good this vintage was in Tuscany and marks a new stage in the development of the estate. The spicy nose of raspberry and black currant fruit, the notes of graphite and cedar, and the long, rich, and balanced flavors (sizeable, ripe, and quite textured) all testify to quality grapes and able cellar work. The estate’s 1999 Terricci is a brooding, masculine wine packed with earthiness, tobacco, herbs, leather and dark fruit. Early tertiary notes are evident, yet the wine’s structure and length suggest it has another eight to ten years of prime drinking ahead of it. This blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc saw 18 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017. At press time the estate was in the process of changing importer.
