Medium to full-bodied, the wine is still tight and mineral-driven on the palate, with pure flavors of spiced plum skin and dark cherries, a balanced structure and lifting tannins. The wine concludes with a floral, red-fruited finish and lingering spice notes. It's a brilliant wine that rested for 21 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. Bravo!

The 100% whole-cluster Syrah lingers with a long finish and is not overcomplicated by excessive oak usage, allowing this Syrah to conclude with a burst of floral and succulent fruit essences.

The 2016 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard opens with black peppercorn ground over a bowl of black fruit, with aromas of cigar ash and savory herbs with dark purple flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the wine expands in the mouth to show a rich but chewy palate with lush fruit and grippy tannins across the back. It ends with a grippy finish that will take some time to come around or will be best enjoyed with food, now. 1,189 cases made.

The most reticent and reserved of these Syrah bottlings, the 2015 Syrah The Deal Sundance Vineyard opens in the glass with notes of sweet red berries, potpourri and tapenade. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, with an assertive chassis of structuring tannins. It will need more time than usual to round out and open up in this vintage.
