Chezeaux’s 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Rue de Chaux offers both more richness, depth of color, and palpable extract than the preceding wines. Hard black cherry candy is still the primary fruit expression both on the nose and in the mouth, but there is plenty of vigor, bright juiciness, flattering richness of glycerin, and good integration of fine-grained tannins. Notes of toasted nuts, clove, chalk and citrus zest add interest to the sweet black cherry in the satisfyingly long finish of this early charmer. Jerome Chezeaux had just bottled (albeit without filtration) when I visited, so allowances should be made for the possibility that the wines were suffering from this. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne (84), 2005 Vosne-Romanee (85+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges (86+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains (?).Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel.
