Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière is initially a little awkward on the nose, but it coalesces in the glass, gaining more intensity and eventually unveiling fine pressed flower scents with a hint of marmalade. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, very focused and poised, saline in the mouth with a brisk, poised and energetic finish, a touch of blackcurrant leaf on the aftertaste. This is a well-crafted and quite compelling wine from J-M Boillot.

The 2013 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière has a very composed and refined bouquet, laden with attractive cold stone/wet limestone scents that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced with vibrant acidity, plenty of red apple, citrus lemon and stony notes, class and sophistication on the finish. Très Puligny ... and that's what we want. Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière from Jean-Marc Boillot has a rather broody nose: chalky with limestone notes, lime cordial surfacing with time in the glass. The palate is fresh, poised with lifted acidity, making this quite sharp towards the finish, but simultaneously minerally and tensile. It coalesces with several swirls and reveals its class – this is a very fine Truffières to drink over the next decade.

Boillot’s 2010 Puligny-Montrachet La Truffiere comes across as very tight today. There is plenty of textural elegance in the glass, but the aromas and flavors aren’t fully developed just yet. Veins of crystalline minerality flesh out on a bright, vibrant finish that is all about length. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. This is an impressive set of wines from Jean-Marc Boillot. The 2010s are very clearly marked by their terroirs, a departure from vintages such as 2009 and 2011, where the wines are less vivid. Boillot began harvesting on September 19th.
