Harry’s Monster is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc that is only produced every 3-5 years. The grapes are all vinified separately. The best lots are selected and blended in late November, then get 18-20 months in barrel. Phil Sexton has certainly put Yarra’s Healesville on the map of hot-destinations in Victoria with his modern Giant Steps winery, cellar door and restaurant. (His Little Creatures Brewery right next door is also a puller for lovers of microbrews.) In short, Phil is not one to do things by halves and it shows in his wines. There are two labels produced here including the Innocent Bystander wines range, which is listed separately. Giant Steps are the flagship wines that focus on single vineyard expression. Phil believes that single vineyard fruit has to come in with its own indigenous yeasts, that this is part of the terroir and the character of his wines. I’m inclined to agree.Importer: Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; www.oldbridgecellars.com
