Medium-deep garnet in color, the 2007 Grenache Shiraz (a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Shiraz) gives pronounced aromas of warm raspberries, blackberry compote, mulberries, Indian spices, soy and black olives. Full-bodied with a medium level of silky tannins, it has plenty of expressive fruit with crisp acidity and a long, spicy finish. Drinking now, it should remain good to 2016+. The 2004 Grenache – Shiraz was aged entirely in used oak. The aromatics are muted but with coaxing earthy kirsch and blue fruit scents emerge. More expressive on the palate, the wine is velvety-textured, seamless, and easy-going. Made in a forward style, it is a wine to drink over the next 3-4 years. It offers good value. This wine (63% Grenache from a vineyard planted in 1926 and 37% Shiraz) is a hefty (13.9% alcohol), peppery, kirsch, and raspberry-scented and flavored wine with excellent aromatics and richness. Fleshy, soft, and round, the wine's red fruit character dominates its personality. Think of it as a very good Australian Cotes du Rhone.
