The Giacomo Fenocchio 2017 Barolo shows tight aromas of dried fruit and cassis with crushed flowers and grilled herb. The wine presents an informal and accessible personality, especially in terms of the mouthfeel, that is probably best suited for near or medium-term drinking with a platter of goat cheeses and herb crackers. The wine is simple and straightforward more than it is particularly intense or complex. Some 7,000 bottles were released.

This is a hearty and slightly evolved expression. The Giacomo Fenocchio 2016 Barolo offers a broad range of Nebbiolo characteristics with lots of dark fruit followed by spice, tar and tilled earth. That licorice signature is very strong in this wine. The fruit veers toward heavier black and purple fruit tones, with plenty of tar and campfire ash. Instead of sharpness and precision, this Barolo offers a big-picture approach with wide, sweeping flavors.

Claudio Fenocchio's base 2011 Barolo shows simple lines, medium intensity and quick approachability. The wine is executed in a classic style with long maceration times to increase color density and aromatic intensity followed by long aging in Slovenian oak casks. I have lingering doubts concerning the lackluster bouquet. The wine presents a flat, one-dimensional set of dark fruit and spice aromas that show little potential for a future evolution.
