Vajra's dense plum-colored 1998 Barolo exhibits a sexy, sweet, open-knit perfume offering aromas of melted licorice, smoke, plums, and cherries. It is supple, full-bodied, layered, forward, concentrated, and impressively rich. It is surprisingly fragrant for such a young Barolo (a consistent characteristic for most 1998 Barolos and Barbarescos). Harmony is the operative word for this young but promising effort.
