Dolcetto performs beautifully in warm vintages like this. The 2015 Dolcetto d'Alba Vignavillej is a full and generous red wine that bursts forward with dark, chewy and beautifully succulent fruit. You get dark cherry, plum and sweet blackberry in generous supply.

The 2008 Dolcetto d’Alba Vignavillej coats the glass with intense dark fruit, showing marvelous purity and length. Blackberries, blueberries, almonds and cloves linger on the close. Far from an easygoing Dolcetto, the Vignavillej needs to be opened in advance. I experimented with giving this a brief decant and tasting it from a large Bordeaux glass and was treated to a sublime experience. The Vignavillej is a terrific effort from Brovia. The 2007 Dolcetto d’Alba Vigna Villej reveals terrific length and richness in its core of perfumed, dark red fruit. The wine offers plenty of depth and sheer stuffing to continue to drink well for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013. This is a wonderful set of new releases from the Brovia family. The 2005 Barolos are very much in the style of the vintage and show tons of balance and sheer harmony. The Barolos are vinified in a traditional manner, using natural yeasts and with a preference towards cement for the single-vineyard wines, which are subsequently aged in French oak.
