Showing an inky dark appearance, the Fontanabianca 2021 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is very rich and extracted with a heavy quality of fruit that recalls dried blackberry, prune, spice and dried tobacco leaf. It finishes with soft earthy notes over a full-bodied texture. This Barbera is on the bigger and bolder side of the spectrum. Production is 17,000 bottles.

The 2020 Barbera d'Alba Superiore shows a very dark quality with an almost impenetrable appearance. The wine is quite fragrant with the raw primary notes of baked plum and blackberry that are characteristic of this grape. Those black fruit aromas are framed by light tobacco or spice. The mouthfeel is both rich and fresh.

Revealing dark cherry and dried blackberry, the Fontanabianca 2019 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is a mid-weight expression that delivers the black fruit intensity this grape is known for, but it also shows a good level of mouth-freshening acidity. This wine would pair nicely with a flatbread or pinsa topped with pulled pork and smoked cheese. Some 14,000 bottles were made, and you get good value here.
