The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is a dense and rich expression. The bouquet is a bit reduced, with hints of tin can or black olive that I would not normally associate with Barbera. This variety tends to show black and ripe aromas that recall blackberry or cherry preserves. You get some of that here too, but that naked fruit is somewhat buried at the back. The wine picks up speed in the mouth, thanks to the darkness and openness of its robust fruit fiber. Some 9,000 bottles were made. Fruit for this wine comes from a historic vineyard once farmed by grandpa Bruno.
