The one sweet wine here, which Víctor de la Serna says has the spirit of a Ruby Port, is the 2015 Cuvée Cecilia, named after Víctor's daughter. It's a fortified red with some 160 grams of sugar produced with 70% Syrah and 30% Moscatel de Alejandría, which obviously gives it a different aromatic and floral profile. The Syrah was picked late, fermented a little and then fortified; the Moscatel must was added later and the blend was put to mature in used oak barrels for 18 months. The nose is an explosion of rosemary, thyme and black olives, with hints of sun-dried tomatoes and a floral touch. It's very aromatic and expressive. The palate showed some tannins and doesn't feel too sweet, as if the tannins compensated the sweetness and also the freshness of the Moscatel. The nose is like a Mediterranean sweet red, but the palate is closer to a Port. 1,200 50-centiliter bottles were filled from two 300-liter barriques in March 2017.

Funnily enough, the fastest selling wine is the 2014 Cuvée Cecilia, not bad because it's a sweet wine and they tend to sell very slowly. This is an unusual blend of 70% late-harvested Syrah and the rest Moscatel (de Alejandría), bottled with 185 grams of unfermented sugar. 2014 was the first vintage for some newly planted Moscatel that was used as unfermented must, then added to the result of fermenting Syrah, in two 300-liter oak barrels with indigenous yeasts; this was a fermentation that was soon stopped by the addition of alcohol. It has the classical aroma of a Mediterranean mistelle, with plenty of notes or tomato vine, black olives, aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary, even oregano), making me think of a spiced up bloody Mary... The palate shows some bittersweet flavors, sustained by nice acidity. The wine matured in barrel for some six months and was bottled into 1,180 50-centiliter bottles in August 2015. 2014 was a classic Mediterranean vintage in Manchuela.

From a difficult vintage that was wet during the growing season and at the end of the harvest, the 2013 Cuvée Cecilia is a sweet red made up of 70% late-harvested, raisined Syrah and 30% Moscatel de Alejandría from bought-in musts. It was fortified to 15% alcohol leaving 170 grams of residual sugar in it. It matured for six months in used 300-liter oak barrels before bottling. It could probably age, but I prefer these wines in their exuberant youth. The nose combines curious notes of tomato and olive together with orange-peel aromas from the Moscatel making an unusual combination (raisins with fresh must!). The palate is rather sweet and could do with more freshness. It's better served at the temperature of a white wine to go with red fruit desserts. 1,180 half-liter bottles were produced.

The 2011 Finca Sandoval Cuvee Cecilia is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Muscat de Alejandria vines planted in 1998. It has a very rich bouquet of boysenberry jam, dates, Christmas cake and maraschino cherries that is a little over powering. The palate is viscous on the entry, although the acidity manages to keep it balanced and the finish offers finely tuned dates, raisin and cranberry – all handling the 150 grams of residual sugar with some style.
