Boasting a deep golden-amber color, the 2007 Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina is a delicious wine with a unique personality. Characteristic aromas of candied fruit, dried apricot and honey are fleshed out by muskier aromas of button mushroom and tilled earth. The aromatic ensemble works surprising well. In the mouth, this Vin Santo shows a creamy, viscous texture that makes for a lasting impression.

The 2004 Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina (500-milliliter) is a wine of substance and depth. This beautiful blend of 65% Malvasia and 35% Trebbiano offers caramelized notes with candied fruit, honey and delicate touches of dried herb or mint. A portion of the grapes—those with the biggest clusters—are left to air-dry for three months before pressing. The blended wine is then aged in small oak vessels called caratelli for six long years. I'm a bit confused as to why Fattoria di Grignano sent me the 2004 vintage for review this year, because they submitted the 2007 vintage for review two years ago.
