The darkest of the reds, the 2020 Dos Dedos de Frente is a ripe and powerful Syrah. It's showy, perfumed and heady, hedonistic and supple, with less oak than in previous years. It comes from grapes from a supplier working together against ripeness and alcohol, working organically and with infusion of plants and regenerative agriculture. It fermented with some 6% Viognier. The change in this is 13.9% alcohol, avoiding high ripeness, using more neutral barrels and letting the wine rest in tank after the élevage in oak, delivering a wine with more varietal character à la Rh?ne, with a mixture of violets, tar and bacon fat. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant but fine-grained tannins. 6,995 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023.

The 2019 Dos Dedos de Frente comes from two hectares planted in 2000 in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra with a selection from the Rh?ne on stony soils at 950 meters in altitude and also contains 8% Viognier. The two varieties were fermented together, trying to obtain a less austere wine with a softer texture and rounder tannins with good ripeness at 14.65% alcohol and abundant tannins. It matured for one year in 500- and 650-liter oak, and the oak feels better integrated. 6,700 bottles were filled in 2021.

They believe their 10th release of this high-altitude, late-ripening Syrah is the most balanced to date. The 2018 Dos Dedos de Frente comes from two hectares in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra planted in 2000 with a selection from the Rh?ne on stony soils at 950 meters in altitude, and it also contains 5% Viognier. In previous vintages, they only used the Viognier skins, but in 2018 the grapes ripened at the same time, so they were able to ferment it with the whole berries. The grapes were handpicked the 12th of October and fermented after a six-day cold soak, then the wine matured for 12 months in 500- and 650-liter oak casks (he abandoned the 225-liter oak barrels when he started this cuvée in 2016, and there was a change in the wine when he started using larger barrels). This is showy and exuberant, more in the style of Guigal than Clape. It's expressive, open, spicy and smoky, with abundant, fine-grained and chalky tannins. It's juicy, full-bodied and manages to keep the freshness and tension. This is still extremely young, and it's going to need a couple of years in bottle to start expressing what it really is. It should age nicely, as it has the stuffing and balance to do so. 6,373 bottles were filled in November 2019.

The 2017s have lower alcohol and more freshness than previous vintages, which is quite apparent in the 2017 Dos Dedos de Frente. It's part of the single vineyard bottlings, the ninth release from a high altitude and late ripening vineyard, El Val, two hectares in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra. For the first time, half of the grapes fermented in large open barrels and they achieved better integration of the oak. 2017 shows a very fruit forward and expressive wine, that is floral and perfumed. The palate is round with buttery tannins and has very good acidity. Really impressive. It should develop nicely in bottle. There were 4,600 bottles produced.

The 2016 Dos Dedos de Frente was cropped from a dry year when Syrah ripened after most of the Garnacha. It contains small percentages of Viognier à la C?te-R?tie. It comes from a vineyard planted in 2000 in the village of Villarroya de la Sierra with a massale selection from the Rh?ne. It matured in well-seasoned oak barrels. They have been working to lower the alcohol and give this wine less oak, looking for more freshness. This 2016 shows that change within its powerful style, a wine built to last with character and some tannins. 3,300 bottles were produced.
