The 1989 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde, which saw a great deal of aging in new oak casks, is a full-bodied, rich, surprisingly tannic wine, with an underlying elegance and purity that is admirable. The wine is bursting with a black-fruit character, has great color, and a generous dosage of toasty, vanillin oakiness. It should be at its best between now and 2000. Last tasted 9/94.
