The 1995 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde exhibits similar characteristics to the other red wine offerings, with more elegance, but the wine is tannic, lean, hard, and charmless. No known American importer.

I have enjoyed the wines of Pierre Gaillard from cask, but I rarely have a chance to taste them from bottle. These two sleek and compact 1990s reveal impressive, saturated, deep ruby/purple colors. The 1990 Cote Rotie-Brune et Blonde reveals more extraction. Yet again the finish is lean and hard, without much ampleness and mid-palate. I wonder if it will improve? The 1989 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde, which saw a great deal of aging in new oak casks, is a full-bodied, rich, surprisingly tannic wine, with an underlying elegance and purity that is admirable. The wine is bursting with a black-fruit character, has great color, and a generous dosage of toasty, vanillin oakiness. It should be at its best between now and 2000. Last tasted 9/94.

The 1988 exhibits an intense ruby/purple color, and a ripe cassis nose intertwined with aromas of vanilla and caramel. In the mouth it displays fine richness, an attractive fatness and mid-palate depth, and long, alcoholic, rich, tannic flavors that suggest this wine should continue to drink well for 10-12 years. To date, this is one of the finest Cote Roties made by Gaillard. Last tasted 9/94.
