A rather chunky, muscular effort this vintage, the 2019 Cotes du Rhone Parallele 45 looks to be one of the better recent examples of this cuvée. Black cherries and plums combine with notes of raspberries and cranberries to create a balanced profile in this medium to full-bodied wine. Hints of garrigue and licorice sneak in on the softly dusty finish, giving this otherwise fruity wine some savory appeal. Drink it on release and over the next several years.

Now produced entirely from organically grown grapes, Jaboulet's 2017 Cotes du Rhone Parallele 45 is a blend of approximately 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% other permitted varieties. It's medium-bodied, with tart cherry fruit, a soft dusting of supple tannins, finishing crisp and easy.
