Mint and floral aromas are joined by blueberries, red plums and cassis on the nose of the 2019 Cornas Terres d'Arce. Rich and tannic, with a bright edge of acidity, it's full-bodied, though a bit raw at this stage—it's a beast of a wine that needs time in the cellar. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

The 2018 Cornas Terres d'Arce was fermented entirely as whole clusters. Alongside classic notes of crushed stone, blackberry and cassis, there's also a wild, earthy element to this full-bodied wine. It's intense and firmly structured, so give it a couple of years after its anticipated 2020 release.

A terrific effort, the 2017 Cornas Terres d'Arce was aging in new 500-liter barrels yet shows no trace of oak. Complex aromas of violets, orris root and crushed stone join blueberries and plums on the exciting nose, while the full-bodied palate shows incredible concentration and yet remains supple, turning firmer on the long finish.

The 2016 Cornas Terres d'Arce offers plenty of jammy red fruit with attractive hints of crushed stone and spice, but it also has some hard tannins on the finish. It will be interesting to check back in on it next year and see how it has developed.

A tiny-production cuvée (700 bottles) that’s also from the Sabarotte and Les C?tes lieux-dits, the 2015 Cornas Terre D'Arce is a big bruiser of a wine that was brought up all in once and twice-used barrels. Chocolate, black fruits, smoked earth, barrique and crushed rock all emerge from this full-bodied, rich, massively concentrated beauty. Possessing no hard edges, tons of ripe tannin and a seamless texture, it needs 3-4 years or more of cellaring, but I suspect it will have two decades of longevity.
