The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles offers up aromas of sweet cherries, berries, licorice, spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, supple and concentrated, with lively acids, refined tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish, it's a lovely rendition of this exceptional hillside site.

A lovely cuvée from this prime hillside lieu-dit is the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles. Wafting from the glass with notions of cassis, wild berries, forest floor, violets and dark chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with lively acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This has turned out brilliantly.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is a touch more reserved, unwinding to reveal a brooding bouquet of cherries, berries, dark chocolate, grilled meats and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, lively and precise, it's concentrated and introverted, with powdery structuring tannins and a mineral finish.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles exhibits aromas of cassis, wild blueberries and dried flowers that mingle with savory bass notes of licorice and espresso. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with wonderful concentration and depth at the core, tangy acids and a long, mineral finish. This is a supremely elegant Evocelles that's well worth seeking out.

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin les Evocelles is matured in 25% new oak having not been touched by the frost. The nose was showing some reduction. The palate is quite bold by comparison with blackberry, marmalade and touches of orange rind. The tannins here feel quite rigid with quite a masculine, saline finish, so I would like to see more flesh evolve during its maturation.
