The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is absolutely singing today. Bright red fruit, freshly cut flowers, mint and crushed rocks are woven together in this energetic, finely chiseled Gevrey. The pure, crystalline finish suggests many years of fine drinking lie ahead. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. These five 2009s all met or exceeded my expectations based on what I tasted from barrel during my last visit. Over the last few years there has been no shortage of fabulous wines in this cellar. The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, is somewhat fleeting and elusive, with pretty hints of berries, crushed flowers and spices. It looks to be a relatively early maturing wine. Tasted from tank. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Louis Boillot remarked that he and his wife Ghislaine Barthod were the first to harvest in 2009, but the last in 2008. In 2009 Boillot was concerned with losing the singular expression of site, hence his decision to pick on the early side. The 2009s were made from 100% destemmed fruit, as is the custom here. New oak reached a maximum of 25-30%.
