Le Clos de Cazaux’s 2006 Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes Blanc is still drinking nicely and checks in as a blend of 70% Clairette, 20% Roussanne and the balance Viognier, that was aged 35% in new barrels. Reminding me of a classy St Joseph Blanc (despite having very little in common) with its caramelized apples, almond paste and stone fruits, it’s medium-bodied, rich, textured and has vibrant acidity keeping it fresh and lively. I don’t see any upside here, but it should evolve gracefully.
