The 2010 Orvieto Classico Superiore Vendemmia Tardiva is a beautifully intense dessert wine with fragrant tones of orange zest, almond paste, jasmine, candied pear and white peach. It’s not enormously complex, but it does taste delicious and hits that proverbial sweet spot that makes a dessert wine enjoyable without being cloying. Drink: 2013-2018. One of the better Orvietos I have tasted, this nicely-textured, honeyed wine possesses more layers of flavor than one usually expects from an Orvieto. It is another persuasive example from the 1997 vintage, a year that seems to have produced many low acid, fleshy, glycerin-endowed dry whites throughout Italy.
