The 2009 Larmes du Paradis Rose is one of the more intriguing roses I tasted this year. A blend of 85% Picotendro (as Nebbiolo is known in these parts) and 15% Freisa and Neyret, this rich, deeply-colored wine literally explodes in a ripe, exotic expression of fruit. Herbs, smoke and spices develop in a big, weighty wine that surprises for its richness. The Larmes du Paradis Rose has the stuffing to stand up to just about anything. In a word: marvelous. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2012.
