Savoury cough mixture, sweet cassis and cherry with subtle oak on the nose. Ripe and opulent with great integration of spice, vanilla and oak. It has a fine texture, a long length and heaps of finesse. Superb.

Feels tight and dry and tannic now, and although the pedigree is clear, it’s not showing generosity of spirit. There’s a core of blackberries, black currants and minerals, yet it’s hiding under a blanket of astringency. Will it age beyond the next few years? Hard to predict. ——S.H.(12/31/2010)—— 89

The Jefferson Cuvee has been a good bet in Napa Cab over the years, showing elegance and power, but also balance. The ’05, which contains a splash of Syrah, is rich in blackberry and dark chocolate flavors, and is made more interesting by the texture, which includes fine acidity and perfectly ripened tannins.
