The fully mature 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Jefferson Cuvee has developed beautifully. It possesses a dark garnet/plummy color with a purple center and a pink rim. Sweet, chocolatey, smoked herbs, and barbecue-scented nose is followed by a wine with deep, rich, concentrated, blackcurrant and cherry fruit, sweet oak, and a lush, plump finish. It should continue to drink well for 7-8 years. The tasting notes for this section are from two single blind tastings, one conducted in May, 1996, in California, and the other in June, 1996, in Baltimore.
