Colli di Lapio’s 2011 Greco di Tufo Alexandros is a rich, immediate wine. Lemon, white flowers and peach flavors caress the palate in a Greco di Tufo that is surprisingly rich, generous and open. Minerality is less apparent in this vintage, so readers should keep that in mind when pairing the 2011. Still, there is no shortage of elegance or finesse here. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. The 2010 Greco di Tufo Alexandros is gorgeous, layered and totally expressive. White stone fruits, flowers and crushed rocks come together beautifully in this delineated, crisp Greco di Tufo. The clean, refreshing finish invites a second taste. In just its second year, the Alexandros has emerged as one of Campania's most exciting whites. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Colli di Lapio is one of my favorite emerging estates in Campania. Unfortunately this year I encountered significant bottle variation across several wines. While it is impossible for an outsider such as me to have all the answers, I suspect much - if not most - of the variation can be traced to poor quality corks. I hope the estate will take the necessary steps to make quality more consistent, as these are thrilling wines when everything is in place. The 2009 Greco di Tufo Alexandros is an intensely mineral wine that recalls the bright, piecing acidity of Chablis. Crushed rocks, mint, minerals and white peaches linger on the focused finish. This is a new Greco from Colli di Lapio, here in its first release. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Colli di Lapio is one of Campania’s most promising young properties. The estate is best known for its Fiano di Avellino, a wine that generally needs a few years in bottle to show its best.
