The 2009 Etnic is a blend of old-vine Carinena (80%) and Garnacha with a subtle, balanced nose of black fruits, flowers and esparto grass showing some rusticity but lots of character. The palate is medium-bodied, showing piercing flavors, good weight and persistence, with a remarkable finish. A very good value wine. Drink now-2019. The 2007 Etnic has a very intense nose of blackberry, raspberry, allspice and cedar that soars from the glass. The palate is very well-balanced, with a fleshy, kirsch-tinged entry that fans out nicely and leads to a sweet raspberry and maraschino finish. It has crisp acidity to keep it balanced and constitutes a heady, delicious wine to drink over the next five years. Drink 2013-2018. Celler El Masroig is Monstant’s largest co-operative. It was founded in 1917 between grape and olive growers and consists of 300 members who tend 500 hectares of vineyard. Winemaker Carles Esolar produces admirable wines that represent good value. The flagship bottling, the 2006 etnic is a blend of 80% Samso and 20% Garnacha. Deep crimson-colored, it emits an alluring nose of pencil lead, earth, mineral, plum, and black cherry.
