The delicious 2010 Salice Salentino Selvarossa Riserva is a bold and modern wine with thick lines and a very attractive level of aromatic heft and dimension. The blend is 90% Negroamaro and 10% Malvasia Nera. Aromas of black cherry, dried blackberry, spice, cola, herb and cinnamon stick rise from the glass. It shows a rich, opulent texture that wraps thickly over the palate. The tannins are seamless and soft, and the wine offers lovely plushness to soften any rough edges.

The 2006 Salice Salentino Riserva Selvarossa is Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera that spent nine months in French oak barrels. This fat, opulent wine flows with generous dark fruit, sweet herbs and French oak. In 2006 the varietal notes seem a touch overwhelmed by the oak, which is a shame as the fruit seems to have the depth and purity to stand on its own.
