With respect to the white wines, the 2012 Pinot Grigio is a surprisingly intense, medium-bodied, vibrant, fresh white with good acidity and a perfumed bouquet of apple butter, pear and honeysuckle. This pure, persuasive white should drink well for another 1-2 years.
The monks of Muri-Gries, an ancient, still-working Benedictine monastery located south of the Bremmer Pass, began producing wines in 1947. The current white wine offerings stood out in my tastings, but to be transparent, I am not a great fan of the Lagrein red grape, so some readers may enjoy that wine more than I did. Doug Polaner is his name, and high quality wines in all price ranges is his game. I have been tasting with Polaner over a number of years, and these notes represent his very finest value selections.
