The 2013 Pinot Grigio Alto Adige was aged five months in stainless steel and 25% spent time in large neutral oak ovals (called foudres in France). It exhibits lovely notes of apple skins, honeyed apricots, white currants and spring flowers in a medium-bodied, fresh, nicely textured style. This dry white should drink well for a year or more.
This working Benedictine monastery has an excellent reputation for their classy wines emerging from south of the Bremmer Pass in southern Tyrol. Founded in 1845 by Benedictine monks from Switzerland, Muri-Gries began producing wine in 1947 and has consistently performed well in my tastings.
