2018 was a very powerful vintage in Western Australia, both for reds and whites. It is for this reason that the oak on the nose of the 2018 Shiraz Scotsdale—prominent at this stage—is excused. We know that the fruit quality has the gravitas to stand up to it, and certainly in the mouth, the fruit shows a brilliant line and length across the palate. The structuring tannins are really the highlight in this wine and show a satisfying chew and texture through the finish. Nicely done.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Scotsdale Shiraz displays a complex nose of crushed blackcurrants, warm black plums and mulberries with hints of fruit cake, licorice, mocha, cedar and Szechuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, it packs in the perfumed black fruit and spice flavor layers and is supported by medium to firm, fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acid line. It finishes with great length. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Scotsdale Shiraz opens with a nose of crushed black raspberries, mulberries and currants with touches of underbrush, Szechuan pepper and bark. Medium to full-bodied, it has a nice vivacity to the flavors, yet is just a little lacking in mid-palate substance.
