The label has changed—it now denotes "Syrah" instead of "Shiraz." In Australia, the only difference between the two is stylistic, with "Syrah" suggesting a slightly more elegant wine, perhaps even grown in a cooler area. So, to this wine. The 2019 Flint Rock Shiraz is crunchy, bright and pretty, with a blood plum, black cherry and mineral/graphite character woven through the palate. It is uncomplicated and doesn't linger for any real length of time, but it's certainly enjoyable drinking.

The 2017 Flint Rock Shiraz comes mostly (80%) from Frankland River. Oak spice and vanilla notes add extra gravitas to the peppered cherries and chocolate aromas and flavors. It's medium to full-bodied and nicely concentrated, with ripe, creamy tannins that glide into a softly dusty finish. It should drink well for 4-5 years.

Notes of asphalt and black olive mark the nose of the 2014 Flint Rock Shiraz. This is a sturdy, muscular, medium to full-bodied wine with hints of peppery spice, cola, black plum flavors and a firm finish. As it opens in the glass blueberries emerge and the finish turns silkier. It should drink well for 5-7 years.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Flint Rock Shiraz has a licorice, tar and cracked pepper laced nose with a perfumed core of crushed black currants and plums plus a touch of underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate gives a solid structure of chewy tannins and lively tannins supporting the muscular fruit, finishing long and peppery.

Deep garnet-purple in color and scented of crushed blackberries and blueberries with a real peppery undercurrent and nuances of aniseed, camphor and chargrill, the medium to full-bodied 2012 Flint Rock Shiraz offers plenty of spicy black fruit flavors in the mouth with a medium level of rounded tannins and lively acid.
