The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù is delicate and graceful, showing a simple side of the grape but also leaving a series of hints or a trail of bread crumbs to underline the complexity inherent to the variety. The wine is silky and polished, with pretty highlights of cassis, wild cherry, licorice and ash. It is versatile, accessible and leaves a bella figura no matter what the occasion or meal. This release of about 14,000 bottles is a good value.

Bruno Rocca's 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù offers a delicate embroidery or patchwork of wild berry aromas with smoke, tar and powdered licorice. The wine never strives to be too complicated or complex. The goal is to provide a basic Nebbiolo framework with enough freshness and primary fruit to drink informally with your favorite home-cooked meals. Some 16 months of oak aging gives the wine nice grip and power on the palate.

The 2016 Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù is another wine that I would add to my growing collection of excellent value buys from the 2016 vintage. Fruit from the youngest vines makes this wine, and fermentations are executed at cooler temperatures compared to the Nebbiolo for Barbaresco (at 24 degrees Celsius compared to 30 degrees). This wine boasts crisp lines and bright fruity tones of blueberry and crunchy cherry. In order to keep the acidity high, no leaves are removed in the vineyards during summer.

The 2013 Langhe Nebbiolo Fralù delivers earthy tones with savory spice, leather, wild mushroom and cured meat. The wine boasts big bones and bold lines with thick berry aromas and important structure and texture. The wine is aged in French barrique for 12 months. Its bigger style is appropriate for a pairing with grilled meat or spicy sausage.
