The one La Mancha appellation red is the 2015 Single Vineyard, pure Tempranillo from the Finca Los Juncares, fermented in stainless steel and pressed before the fermentation is over and then matured in first and second use French casks for 14 months. This is from their own vineyard in the village of Las Mesas where Rafa Ca?izares was born, and this is his flagship wine. It's a heady, ripe and generously oaked Tempranillo with plenty of spice and with marked flavors in a commercial style. It's easily recognizable as oaked Tempranillo, the oakier of the collection. 48,000 bottles produced.

The 2014 Volver Single Vineyard comes from a parcel of vines planted in 1957 called Finca Los Juncares. It is 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in French oak and bottled unfiltered. It is a relatively small cuvée of 3,000 cases, but it’s a stunning wine, with notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice and blackcurrants. This opaque purple-colored wine has a full-body, showing toasty notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis. It’s a beauty – an internationally styled, modern version of Tempranillo to drink over the next 5-6 years.

The 2014 Volver Single Vineyard, 100% Tempranillo from La Mancha as opposed to Tierra de Castilla, was aged in new French oak for 18 months and bottled unfiltered. This is a serious wine from one of their finest vineyards, Finca los Juncares. This wine shows deep ruby/purple color, notes of licorice, blackcurrant and black cherry, perfect fruit on the attack, medium body, impressive intensity, purity and texture. This should drink well for 3-4 years.

The most expensive wine in this portfolio is the 2012 Single Vineyard, a 100% Tempranillo from a vineyard in La Mancha planted in 1957. There are 2,000 cases of this cuvée, which sees 18 months of aging in new French oak, and is bottled unfiltered. An outstanding, value-priced wine, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice, Christmas fruitcake, blackberries and cassis. Intense and medium-bodied with sweet tannin and a voluptuous, long finish, it should drink well for 1-3 years. It is another Spanish red that over-delivers in fruit, flavor and complexity.
