The 2007 Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell, and Garnacha Tintorera that spent 12 months in barrel. It offers a brooding bouquet with notions of spice box, underbrush, earthy minerals, and assorted black fruits. With good density and grip, it is likely to drink well for at least 5-6 years.
Almansa is an up-and-coming region tucked within the gigantic DO of La Mancha. The most interesting grape is Garnacha Tintorera (better known here as Alicante Bouschet) but Monastrell, aSyrah, and Tempranillo are capable of good things. The entrys from Bodegas Piqueras offer good value.
