The 2006 Seleccion is a blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, and Syrah aged in barrel for 14 months. Darker in color and more brooding aromatically, on the palate it comes off as straightforward and in need of slightly more complexity.
Almansa is an up-and-coming region tucked within the gigantic DO of La Mancha. The most interesting grape is Garnacha Tintorera (better known here as Alicante Bouschet) but Monastrell, aSyrah, and Tempranillo are capable of good things. The entrys from Bodegas Piqueras offer good value.
