The 2007 Prior de Neo is a Priorato blend of 40% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged 22 months in French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it emits a compelling nose of slate/mineral, scorched earth, espresso, lavender, black cherry, and blackberry. Packed, stacked, and structured, this dense, backward effort is in need of 5-7 years of cellaring but seems to have all the right stuff. All that’s required is patience. It should be at its best from 2014 to 2027. Importer: Aurelio Cabestrero, Grapes of Spain, Lorton, VA; www.grapesofspain.com
