The 2010 Old Vines Crianza spends six months in mainly used American oak. It has a clean, fresh, dark plum and black cherry-scented bouquet that is well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, charcoal-tinged tannins. It is well-balanced with plenty of fruit and a pleasing, succulent dark cherry and blueberry finish. The oak-aged wines begin with the 2008 Old Vines Crianza (100% Tempranillo) aged in barrel for 6 months followed by 18 months in bottle prior to release. It reveals a bit more complexity than the preceding wines (for only a modest up charge) as well as good depth, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish. The 2007 Old-Vines Crianza is 100% Tempranillo aged in seasoned oak for 6 months. Purple-colored, it offers up aromas of vanilla, cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it displays some elegance, succulent fruit, savory, spicy black fruit flavors, a bit of structure, and very good length. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
